The P-80 was the first operational jet fighter used by the USAAF, and as the F-80 was used extensively by the USAF in Korea. Because the F-80 was inferior to the MiG-15, as soon as a sufficient number of F-86s began entering service, the F-80 was relegated to other duties such as ground attack, flight training, and air defense in Japan. The first air battle between jets took place on November 8, 1950, and resulted in the shooting down of a MiG-15 by an F-80 (The MiG-15 is still a better plane though.)
