
The F-14 is a twin-engine, two-seater, variable geometry wing aircraft, entering active service in the U.S. Navy in 1972. It was retired in 2006, after being replaced by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. During it's active lifetime,The F-14 was the U.S. Navy's main maritime air-superiority and reconnaisance aircraft. As of 2007, the only nation still operating the F-14 is the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Shah of Iran arranged the purchase of the F-14 several years before the Islamic revolution
in that country.
